Dalet School Purposes and Goals
Dalet School is a private school conducted by the Assemblies of Yahweh, restricted to children whose parents are members in good standing of the Assemblies of Yahweh (except through special permission), residing in the Bethel, Pennsylvania, area.
Dalet School is an educational institution where Scripturally correct character is emphasized. Our goal is the perfecting of commandment-keeping qualities in our young people.
Dalet School is a school where Bible truth, the Kingdom way of life and spiritual holiness are taught.
In Dalet School children learn that attendance and participation brings responsibility. It is a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT to attend Dalet School.
Dalet School is a school where morality is stressed. We believe in constantly upholding the highest virtues.
In Dalet School self-discipline is taught and good character is expected to result. We strongly believe that self-discipline is mandatory for the welfare of the home, the Assembly, and the world in which we live. We feel each individual student should be aided in systematically working toward the final objective of living a self-disciplined life.
Dalet School is a school where high academic achievement is honored. Young people are encouraged to seek to do their very best and are evaluated in comparison to their individual potential and achievement of specific goals, rather than compared to the class or group.
The Meaning Of “Dalet”
“Dalet” is the name of the fourth letter of the Hebrew alphabet and means “a door,” or an “open door.” We would like this education to provide an open door for the student both while attending classes and when he leaves school behind and enters his role in the society surrounding us.
General Policies
Classes begin in the fall, and excepting the Feasts of Yahweh, run continuously until June: 180 days of classes as required by Pennsylvania law. As the school teaches the student Bible Truth, it will observe the concept of the preparation day which precedes the Sabbath. Therefore, the classes are arranged so four days of the week are slightly longer, and will be in session only a half day on the preparation day (Friday), freeing the student in the afternoon to assist the family in the preparation for the Sabbath.
The daily hours of the school will be from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on all days except the sixth day of the week, when classes will be dismissed at 12:00 noon. Kindergarten class will be held for two full days, on Monday and Wednesday, with a half day on Friday. There will be a half hour lunch period (11:30 to 12:00) Monday through Thursday, when the student should bring their own lunch, as no lunch will be served at the school.
Tuition is $40.00 per month for nine months, September through May, inclusive for the first child, and $30.00 per month for each of the other children in a family. Kindergarten tuition is half price. However, we have not demanded tuition payments. Perhaps the analysis (or maxim) “no cost, no value” has lowered the estimation of the school. If a family cannot help pay their way financially, they should volunteer their time on workdays around the grounds, help in the school with repairs, assist the teachers, or otherwise volunteer time.
NO DALET SCHOOL BUSINESS SHALL BE CONDUCTED ON THE SABBATH. Assemblies of Yahweh does not conduct office business on Sabbath; therefore our Sabbath pursuits should concentrate on spiritual things. See Isaiah 58:13–14.
As a courtesy, any person other than a faculty member or administrator must ask the principal or administration for permission before entering or visiting the school. As we do not have a Day Care Center, younger brothers and sisters are not permitted to visit in the classroom, except for special times which may be set up as visitation days.
Give children breakfast! Some children are apparently running on empty when they arrive at school. If you do not have the money for food, see the administration and food will be provided. Are children taught to eat properly, or do they alternate between table and television or eat in front of the television?
No child is allowed in or around the Assemblies of Yahweh offices. Students should maintain quiet when passing the office windows. The students are to be excluded from all Assemblies of Yahweh work areas. Any interaction between the office staff and the students should be handled within proper channels. Entering the business offices without direct permission of the teacher is forbidden.
Lunches are to be eaten in the school, unless the child’s parents are on the staff, and the parents prepare lunch in the annex. Generally, however, it is best to prepare lunches for the students to eat in the school.
No snack purchases by students will be allowed on an individual basis. If you are short of lunch for your children, inform the teacher and he will make arrangements to obtain snacks, if any are available. This should be a very rare occurrence.
Assemblies of Yahweh songs should be listened to and sung as a rule. Most worldly music is unacceptable for Dalet School children.
Parent Teacher Cooperation
Parents must support the administration, or we are no better than Public Schools. (All parents and students should abstain from gossip and criticism.)
Parents must pray at home for Dalet School, so students will follow their example and Dalet School will receive proper esteem. Parents must show respect for the Dalet School teachers and demand that their children show that same kind of respect!
Several Dalet School parent-teacher functions will be held throughout the year. After the first quarter, time for parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled.
Please conduct all your school business, phone calls, etc., by contacting the person or persons involved between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. If a parent needs to see a teacher or administrator, please set up a conference time. Parents are encouraged to make appointments to meet the teacher when the need arises.
Curriculum
Children should be encouraged by the parents to advance in knowledge and to accept challenges placed before them.
Students are placed in courses based upon their level of educational advancement and ability as determined by both standardized tests and the ability of the student to be successful at that level, as judged by the administration.
When a student fails more than one subject (grades K–8), his promotion into the next grade is in jeopardy. In high school a grade point average is used for promotions. The courses required by the state for nonpublic students must be successfully completed for graduation.
The student is responsible for the following supplies: notebook paper (lined), 3 ring notebook, pencils (grade K–4); pencils and pens (grade 5–12); crayons (kosher type), water-based markers or colored pencils (box of eight colors), glue and scissors (grade K–8); and facial tissues as needed.
The math program will be established as a two-step program. Ray’s Arithmetic will be used for gifted students who volunteer to try. Regular math (but not modern math) for those who only want to meet the minimum requirements.
Reasonable homework will be assigned and will be expected to be completed on a daily basis.
Students (not parents) must do the homework. If parents help their children, the children must comprehend the problem and the solution.
Field trips are planned every year—but we must have cooperation, financial help, and assistance in chaperoning from some of the parents.
Student Deportment
Parents must correct their children when needed. It is the parent’s obligation to thoroughly instruct children in the ways of Yahweh. Students who have a worldly attitude will not be allowed in the school. The child should want to be in Dalet School, therefore, a positive attitude about the school must be encouraged in the student.
Mature behavior is expected of all students. When a child repeatedly does not exhibit growth toward maturity, he may be expelled if his behavior has become disruptive.
No serious boy/girl relationships will be allowed while enrolled in Dalet school, This is an educational institution, not a matchmaking establishment. We do not allow pairing off, or labeling as boyfriends or girlfriends. There shall not be any dating done by any student in Dalet School. Incidents of fornication will result in immediate expulsion. Any engagement or marriage while in school will result in immediate expulsion. NO TOUCHING IS EVER ALLOWED BETWEEN BOYS AND GIRLS.
Casual conversations only can occur between boys and girls.
Students who do not comply with the dress code standard may not be allowed to attend classes until the problem is corrected.
Limiting Worldly Influences
Parents and students shall strive to exclude worldliness from Dalet School (as much as possible) in conversation, dress, negative attitudes, and all unscriptural activities, etc.
Students must be encouraged to watch less television and pay more attention to home work. Why not limit television to one program per night (after work is done) or completely leave television off? Television makes children hyperactive even more than sugar does. Any media violence (including television, movies, videos, violent computer and video games etc.) must be prohibited. Cartoons are notorious for violence. Monitor your children's television watching closely. Turn off programs that are unacceptable to Assemblies of Yahweh standards and scriptural principles (this would include any R rated movies, any use of profanity, risqué language, nudity, obvious sexual activity, comments with double meanings denoting worldly activities, etc.).
All parents shall watch their children closer.
Listening to rock music is banned for all members of the Assemblies of Yahweh and all students. Headsets for listening to music are banned unless with units having no speakers, then parents must audition the tape first.
Mothers shall search through children’s rooms on a regular basis (every 2 to 3 weeks). The intent is to determine if correspondence in their children’s possession is in harmony with Assemblies of Yahweh standards, and to determine if children have illegal drugs in their possession. The children of Assemblies of Yahweh members are the responsibility of their parents, since the child must be raised in the nurture and admonition of Yahweh.
Intercept children’s mail, and read the letters after the child does. Read all outgoing mail before the child seals the letter.
Watch for anything suspicious the child does, change of dress, attitude, language, habits, etc., that might reveal use of controlled substances. Controlled substances entering Dalet School will not be tolerated. Use of tobacco and alcohol by any student will not be tolerated.
Student Dress Code
The key word for dress and appearance is modesty. Clothing must always be selected for modest fit and appearance. Yahweh’s Word teaches that we should be modest at all times. Our young people are expected to dress for the occasion and to conform with the accepted rules of dress for the Assemblies of Yahweh.
Girls shall dress modestly. Skirt and dress length must be ample so that the knees will be covered when sitting in a normal position. If worn, pants are to be of such a style that they could not be confused as being boys’ clothing. No tight-fitting blouses, sweaters, skirts, or pants will be permitted. Low necklines, midriff revealing, and sleeveless styles are forbidden. Girls should dress simply, neatly, and modestly at all times. The girls’ hair must be left uncut. Appropriate Assemblies of Yahweh hair styles should be worn by girls with special attention to cleanliness and neatness. Girls are to wear a head covering. (Girls are expected to wear Bermuda shorts under a skirt or wear pants on days when Physical Education classes are held.) No high heels are allowed. Girls are not to wear makeup or to have painted fingernails or toenails. If jewelry is worn, it must be modest in number and style. The fads and appearance of worldly models are not to be followed, but a simple, neat, and un glamorized look is required.
For boys modesty and neatness is desirable. Trousers are to be of such a length that they neither touch the floor or are above ankle length when properly belted. Clothing should not be overly tight or sloppy. Boys will not wear tank tops (or muscle shirts) or neck chains. When wearing a sport shirt no more than one button should be unbuttoned at the neck. Boys should not at any time wear garments that could be mistaken as girls’ clothing. Hair must be properly combed and trimmed. On boys, long hair will not be permitted; hair should not cover the ears or collar.
No high platform, high heel, or faddish shoes are permitted. Sandals may be worn according to the season. When regular shoes are worn, students are expected to wear socks. Shoes are to be polished as needed, or clean sneakers in good repair may be worn. (All students must have sneakers for Physical Education class.) Bare feet are not allowed. Since shorts, cutoffs and swim suits are not modest dress, they will not be allowed on school grounds.
Students are expected to wear clothing in the manner it is styled, i.e. if a garment has belt loops, a belt must be worn, etc. Students are expected to come to school in clean clothing, with clean bodies, hair combed, nails cleaned and shoes shined. Inasmuch as students are expected to meet high standards, it is requested that other members of the family maintain similar standards particularly when on school grounds or attending school functions.
Deportment Tracking System
• The name of any child who misbehaves or violates a school rule will be placed on a report sheet for that day.
• A note documenting this report will be sent home to alert parents to the infraction.
• In cases of lying, stealing, fighting, cheating, direct disobedience (open defiance to, or absolute refusal to obey a rule or a direct command), or a rebellious attitude, the child will be removed from classes, and the parents will be called and asked to come and collect the child.
• Parents must then correct and discipline their child so no further action is necessary. The note must be signed and returned to the school, explaining corrective actions taken, and reporting that the child’s attitude has been changed, before the child will be readmitted.
• Should more serious action become necessary, the parents must come in for a conference so a plan to forestall further incidents can be made between Dalet School and the parents.
• The parents are asked to stress the need for improvement and spiritual development to their child.

Parents’ Or Guardian’s Pledge Of
Acceptance
• We, as parents who are accepting the challenge to “train up a child in the way he should go,” state that this training will be carried on in the home. Moreover, we shall place our trust in the Assemblies of Yahweh Dalet School to extend that training more completely.
• We pledge that the family will show its sincere purpose in supporting the teachings of the Assemblies of Yahweh. We will show our faithfulness in regular prayer and reading of the Bible. We will pray for those working in the school (teachers and administrators), will give to the school expansion fund as we are able, and will pay tuition regularly and on time.
• We hereby invest authority in the school to discipline our child as necessary. We further agree that we will cooperate and discipline our child in the home as needed instructing our children in the ways of Yahweh. We will watch our children for any suspicious actions such as change of dress, attitude, language, habits, etc., that might reveal use of controlled substances.
• We will to our fullest cooperate to keep doctrinal controversy, internal politics, gossip, tale bearing, and backbiting out of the school at all times.
• We understand that assessments will be made to cover damage to school property (including breakage and abuse), and we agree to pay for any such damages incurred by our children.
• We will restrict and monitor television watching for our children and see that homework is completed. We will turn off programs unacceptable to Assemblies of Yahweh standards (use of profanity, risqué language, nudity, obvious sexual activities, etc.).
• We will ban listening to rock music and headsets for listening to music, unless with units having no speakers in which case we will audition the tape first.
• We will intercept our children’s mail, reading incoming and outgoing letters. We shall also search our children’s rooms on a regular (2 to 3 weeks) basis to determine if correspondence is in harmony with Scriptural and Assemblies of Yahweh standards, and to determine if children have illegal drugs in their possession.
A copy of the Parents’ or Guardian’s Pledge of Acceptance must be signed each year. If at any time a parent feels he has a problem with any of these statements, he is encouraged to seek the help of the school administration, teachers, or Assemblies of Yahweh elders.
